I'm still alive, although constantly living with this fishing disease has kept me on the water more than my blog. I've been fishing Alot, just not catching Alot. maybe it's a slump... I've been here before, just not this bad. I mean yes, hell I'm catching fish.. just not as many fish as I'd like, and not of the record sizes that I dream of.
Brook trout have been good, just small. largest trout this year is maybe 8". :( I can't even edit the photos to make them look large. Beautiful, yes. Monsters, no
Stripers have been plentiful, nearly every trip out. I've been catching a bunch, sometimes only 1, sometimes 4 or 5. think one night i may have got more, but thats it. one thing about this year that I hate (as a shore fly-fisherman) is that these abundant stripers never seem to get over 20"! there's buckets of them out there, just little ones. oh well. It's still fun, still a great fighting fish on 2x, but I wish there were a few 30's or 40's thrown in.
Although my blog has been a bit thin... hang on, and I promise to get some more posts out there. maybe a SBS on a fly?

Anybody recognize any areas? The covered bridge is a sure symbol of WTMA here in SECT, and was actually virgin to me. (its kinda big water for me)
this casing is about the size of a quarter, with legs, maybe bigger. I saved it, my fly tying area is sometimes littered with dead bugs as well as fake ones. (i gotta have references)
I feel pretty much the same about this season. Maybe fall will bring out some of those big trout. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI hope so. Not to say I haven't been on some great hikes... So far this year Riga is my favorite! Check it out! Ultra low pressure, lots of pockets. I'm not in NW Ct often, but I'm definitely going back!

ReplyDeleteNo luck this year. Few small ones, most likely stocked fingerlings w/o much color. But no 15's like the year before. Maybe I fish too gar upstream, maybe I should get a 4wt out at the mouth, I dunno
DeleteIt was a weird season for me too. I hooked one that had some size to it, but lost it once I got it fairly close to me. Very, very few ran, but I know a couple spin fishermen had luck. There were stripers around, so it was still fun.

DeleteHow's the summer and streams been for you this year? Down here its been wet and cool. We get a few days w/ temps in the 90s, but every week we seem to get another storm through and a cold front follows it. Brook trout fishing has been fantastic 'cause the streams are in such good shape, but it's not been the dry fly action that I like. Warm water has been suffering. I've caught a lot of smallmouth, but nothing big. No hogs yet.
ReplyDeleteIts been Hot n humid. Not too bad today, but by the time I get home from 10+ hours in the sun, I pretty much pass out. Late nights are getting harder to bear, probably comes with age. I'll be in Pa for the first time in 20 years next weekenf for a philly bike pub crawl! Sounds like I better drink plenty of water too!
