The evolution of my mouse SBS

It's a bit out of my usual trout tying, but I had to try it out. Still dealing with winter-time cabin-fever.
I remember reading last year about how a trout was found with 21? mice in it's stomach!!! Gotta have my bases covered right?  so here's my attempt at evolving (its only my 5th ever deer-hair mouse) the next pattern to become a trout slayer.
 start with this...
 do this,
end up with this bed-head nightmare
 give it a haircut....
Voila!!!    I think the zonker tail will look great when it gets wet swimming over lilly-pads for some LMB
the chubby middle mouse is kinda like Gus-Gus in Cinderella.   (sorry, I have a 3 yr old princess)... I've seen Cinderella way too much this last year

any comments? advice? how about mouse eating trout in Ct?

  2. How about mouse eating Browns in California? I'd be willing to purchase a half dozen or so.

    1. Conn to Cali is mighty far for a mouse to travel, but I wouldn't mind sending you one to try... (Fievel) Might give the fly some 'worldly" respect. This is assuming Ca Browns get tired of rainbow powerbait. LOL Thanks for commenting!!!

    2. I'd love to give one a try. Shoot me an email at mkautz@volcano.net so I can send an address. Funny thing about Browns out here, I've only caught one on Power Bait and I think that was by accident. They are more a worm/lure kind of fish.

    1. thanks Atlas! I got a feeling it's gonna work great on some LMB. I usually don't see much monster brown action

  4. Take those mouse patterns up to the Farmington River around dark, you'll see plenty of brown trout action. :-)

  5. Hey those look great! What hook are you using? Tiemco 600? It looks like a good fly to take on the upper housy as it has pike, trout, and smallies. Not to mention no Striped Bass would turn that down.

    1. I thing it was a Tiemco 600, kinda grabbed it from a pile of hooks i use for striper flies. I like the striper idea... just been so damn cold. Standing in the LIS wind is bone chilling cold. I've tried a couple times, but havent seen any. I know the 'holdovers' are supposed to be up in a few rivers around here, maybe a trip is due.

I could see some of those Spots on Smith Lake, my home lake, absolutely killing this thing. Awesome work at the bench. Thanks for sharing
